Day Twenty-one

Several years ago I lived in a much colder climate - globs of frozen white stuff fell regularly from the sky and I had to wear the oddest, fluffy, thick coat-thing to stay warm. While living in this inhospitable climate we owned a clunky, twelve-year old Toyota which was inexpensive, gas-efficient and about as fond of cold weather as I was. Early in the morning we would wander out to turn the poor thing on so I could drive to work rather than walk the five miles or so uphill in the snow (great story, eh?). It didn't always start. The car was most likely to NOT start if it had been sitting unused for a while.

I discovered this morning I have a lot in common with that old car:

  • I haven't done my Pilates in a while, having the kids home for Fall Break. And I didn't start very easily.
  • I made several noises that sounded remarkably like a car with a frozen starter and dying battery.
  • It seemed very much like my rump was frozen to the ground.

So I have decided to learn a lesson from my long-lost automobile friend. When one has a tendency to freeze up from lack of use, skipping a work out (or two - oops) is not a good idea.
