Day One

I am not an athlete.
I was only barely a dancer.
Now I am attempting to learn Pilates.

Today was the first day I used the "Maximum Pilates" workout DVD and I learned a few very important things about myself...

I a
m a "resting pose" prodigy - I got it perfect on the first try.

Any workout that allows me to excercise on my living room floor in my pajamas is destined to be a favorite.

I have all the flexibility of a two-story brick firehouse.

When the instructor says I can revert to "resting pose" whenever I feel like I need to, I take her very literally.

My brain can only concentrate on three things at once and there are several more than that to think about during Pilates: power house, lengthen the spine, relax the shoulders, tuck the tailbone (this one counts as double because it is twice as hard for me to get my body to do), C-curve, Pilates stance, parallel stance, what am I going to make for dinner (can't avoid that thought, Pilates or not), moving my rib cage - moving my rib cage? - there is more, but my brain is full.

All, in all, it was a good workout and a good introduction. I fully expect to be stiff and sore tomorrow, always a good sign.
